Concert by Jakob Fichert

Jakob Fichert pllaying Liszt

Jakob Fichert, a renowned pianist with an international profile and local Green Party member played a lunchtime concert on Saturday, November 3rd at the York Unitarian Chapel, St Saviourgate. Over 60 people, young and old, local and from nearby cities, came to listen and applaud this treat in York. Mr Fichert began by explaining how as a dedicated Green Party member and voluntary media officer for the local party, he was proud to be fundraising on this occasion for such an important cause.

The concert showcased Franz Liszt’s (1811-1886) Années de Pèlerinage, Years of Pilgrimage. These compositions tell about the lifelong journey of Liszt who worked on these masterpieces throughout his adult life. Années de Pèlerinage consists of three cycles, the second of which was performed in the concert. Deuxieme Annee, Italie was divided into three sections: the first mainly being inspired by the art of the old Italian masters Raphael and Michelangelo, the second consisting of the three Petrarch Sonnets, an elegiac journey of love and desire with the monumental Dante Sonata constituting the final part. This truly made a memorable, yet anticpatory finale since we left wishing it would continue and considered calling an encore!

Jakob has repeatedly performed in prestigious venues and festivals and has recorded for Naxos and Toccata Classics to great critical acclaim both as a soloist and collaborating artist. His concerts have taken him all over the world.

Many of Jakob’s students attended the concert on Saturday. Current students from Leeds, as well as a lady who claimed to be his first ever student came to support and enjoy their esteemed tutor’s continuing success. A much in demand pedagogue, Jakob has given numerous master classes for music specialist schools, conservatoires and universities in the UK, China and Mexico. He works as an examiner for ABRSM, teaches the piano at the Universities of York and Hull and holds the position of Principal Lecturer in Piano at Leeds College of Music.

We would like to repeat our thanks and appreication of Jakob’s generoisty in performing on behalf of York Green Party and would encourage any piano music lovers to seek him out in the future.
