Andy Chase
Lead Candidate for Micklegate Ward
Andy Chase is your first choice Green candidate for Micklegate. He has lived in the ward for over 15 years and has a long record of local campaigning. On the last occasion when Micklegate was contested, in 2007, Andy was just 64 votes away from taking a seat from Labour. He also stood as the Green Party's candidate in the General Election.
Andy has a long record of involvement with community action, including local residents' groups and community facilities. He campaigned successfully against the introduction of ticket barriers at York station in 2009. He has actively supported campaigns for more 20mph zones, including collecting petition signatures door-to-door. He opposed the closure of local post offices - including Micklegate Post Office - under the previous Labour government. He has campaigned on many planning issues - he opposed the plan to put a shopping mall around Clifford's Tower in 2003 and more recently spoke out over the Terry's development.
He has been actively involved from the outset with the campaign against unjust government cuts, which will hit the poorest hardest. He has recently spoken out against the proposal to build a massive new retail park at Monks Cross, which could harm small local shops in areas such as Micklegate and Bishopthorpe Road.
Andy said, "The contest for Micklegate this time will be between Green and Labour, so a Green vote could make all the difference in May. York's two Green councillors, in the neighbouring ward of Fishergate, have made an enormous difference to the city."
"It would be a real honour to serve as a local councillor for Micklegate and I urge you to support all your Green candidates in these elections."
