Ginnie Shaw

Candidate for Clifton Ward

Ginnie has lived on St Olave's Road in the Clifton Ward for over 16 years, during which time her now adult children were teenagers. She is concerned about the growing number of apartments in her neighbourhood, potentially creating an imbalance in the community and leading to increased pressures on car parking and traffic congestion in an already hazardous locality.

She has taken an active part in the city including:

  • Chair of Tuke Housing Association.
  • Trustee of York Racial Equality Network.
  • Voluntary sector representative on the York Compact.
Ginnie is a Quaker and has taken part in demonstrations for peace, including vigils outside St Michael le Belfrey. She has a national profile within the disabled people's movement and campaigned successfully for disabled children's housing rights and improvements in home insulation and fuel economy.

She says: "In today's world, green, sustainable, inclusive and accessible slip so easily off politicians' tongues. My vision for York's future is a place where such ideas are reality for every resident. If elected to serve the Clifton ward, I will strive to make our local democracy work to everyone's benefit".
