Champion Greens!

York Green Party are delighted to announce that Andy D'Agorne has been announced as the new York Cycling Champion.

Councillor D'Agorne will join fellow Green Dave Taylor who has was appointed Heritage Champion last year.

Andy D'Agorne has been an active cycling campaigner for thirty years and has said that he is "delighted at this opportunity to combine my enthusiasm for cycling with my role as councillor".

When asked to outline his plans for his time as Champion, Andy said "while I recognise the importance of safety and encouraging responsible cycling, my emphasis in my year of office will be much more on giving novice cyclists courage to start cycling, educating all road users to have respect for the needs and difficulties of others and putting York back on the map as a city that really is a superb place to get about by bike".

Councillor D'Agorne has also promised to work with members of all parties in order to promote cycling in York, with particular mention of Labour Councillor Dave Merritt, who was also in the running for the position of Cycling Champion.

"We need as many champions as possible if we are going to improve cycling facilities and represent York's cyclists in the short time we have" said Andy D'Agorne.

The new cycling champion has been elected following the resignation of previous champion, Conservative Joe Watt.
