Peter Sanderson
Candidate for Heslington Ward
Peter moved to York from Cornwall in 1999 and graduated from York University in 2002.In his final year at university he was named a campus hero of the year by the student newspaper, Vision, for his role in exposing underhand Student Union activities.
After a brief stint with an NGO in Amsterdam he followed the way of many graduates and decided that York was not such a bad place to live. He returned to work for the Green Party for a year.
He then spent a year working to lobby for better rail services in Yorkshire, before moving on to law. He specialises in refugee law and has developed a strong instinct to pick apart arguments and represent people effectively.
Peter has been involved in the Castle Area Campaign to stop a shopping mall being built next to Clifford's Tower. He was also a founding member of York Residents Against Incineration, which has successfully held off the prospect of an incinerator in York. He sat on the Heslington East Community Forum and has helped to lead the Green Party's case against the new Heslington campus.
Peter is a trustee of St Nicholas Fields, a former landfill site turned nature park, which collects kerbside recycling from thousands of households in York. He is also one of the UK's leading Green bloggers (earthquakecove.blogspot.com).
In his spare time Peter enjoys hiking in the Yorkshire Dales, games, and story-telling.
