Every elector in York can vote Green for every seat in May’s local elections. Today (4th April) York Green Party submitted nomination papers for 47 candidates for the 47 seats on City of York Council.

Andy D’Agorne, who has been deputy leader of the council since 2019 said “Three Green councillors have achieved so much in the last 4 years. More Greens will mean more action on the climate emergency, more support for the most vulnerable in the cost of living crisis, and more grown up, collaborative politics.”

Andreas Heinemeyer, one of the three green candidates for Micklegate ward said “Every Green vote counts. In my area of Micklegate we have a chance to win all three seats. It’s between Greens and Labour in Micklegate. I don’t support first past the post, but under this system, a vote for Lib Dems or Conservatives would be wasted in our ward.”

Martina Weitsch, a candidate in Guildhall ward said “Denise Craghill has demonstrated how valuable one Green councillor can be in Guildhall. We could definitely win all three seats this time. I want to be part of the next chapter moving further and faster in response to the climate crisis, the cost of living crisis, the housing crisis, and the energy crisis. All of these are interdependent, as are their solutions.”

Andy Dearden, a candidate in Rawcliffe and Clifton Without said “It might be difficult to win a seat in my ward, but every Green vote sends a message to the other parties that we need urgent action on the climate, biodiversity and cost of living crises. Words are not enough. Standing as a candidate in every seat means everyone in York can vote for a fairer, greener future.”
