Green Party politicians across the country have been condemning the recent terrorist attacks in Manchester and Peacehaven on the south coast and called for people to stand together against these attempts to divide our communities and break us apart.

Green Party leader, Zack Polanski, speaking on the Manchester synagogue attack said ‘“This horrific attack feels deeply personal for me as I grew up in the Jewish community in Manchester. My heart goes out to all those impacted by this dreadful act of terror. It is a sad reflection of the growing antisemitism we’ve witnessed for several years, as well as rising hate crime. It emphasises the importance of interfaith work; of bringing people together in our communities.”

Green MP Ellie Chowns said: “People who make attacks such as this on a particular group are aiming to polarize us as a society. By coming together and resisting that and saying that we celebrate our diversity, we celebrate everybody’s identity, we defend people of all communities – that’s what builds us as a strong community.”

Green council leader in Lewes, Zoe Nicholson, said of the arson attack on a mosque in her council area “This is a deeply distressing incident that strikes at the heart of our community. On behalf of Lewes District Council, I want to express our unwavering support and solidarity with the Muslim community in Peacehaven and across our district. Be in no doubt, we stand shoulder to shoulder with you.”

Green Party councillor in Manchester, Hannah Spencer, said it was wrong to use the terrorist attack on a synagogue in Manchester to crack down on protest. She said: “I think if the government are going to try and use this to further their draconian plans to clamp down on protest at a time when our communities in Greater Manchester are still in shock and grief and in mourning, then I’m absolutely going to call that out and say that protest in itself has always formed a part of what we have grown to love about this country.”
