Guildhall ward campaigner, Henry Stevens has written again to the Labour Government calling for action on the rise of AirBnbs in York. He said that current proposals for a national registration scheme for holiday lets have no teeth and only listened to landlords and not those most affected, residents.
He added “Rent and house prices keep rising in York, with more and more rental properties being lost to holiday lets. This impacts the nature of local communities and the affordability of housing for York residents.”
Henry is supporting a campaign to give local council’s the power to require holiday lets to be licensed locally and to be able to cap the number of licenses available. http://generationrent.org/campaign/homes-not-hotels/
York Green Party is calling for the next Local Plan (due to start the early stages of consultation shortly) to include much stronger policies to make York’s housing market more affordable.
