I was brought up in York and attended local schools. Having lived in social and private housing and being a single parent for a number of years I have empathy with the problems that some people may face. I have personally been a victim of discrimination and am able to help others with social and financial issues. I believe in giving time voluntarily for the local community and for the city of York and as such have worked for Homestart who are a charity that helps families with young children. I have also taken part in a couple of large scale promenade theatre productions in the last 2 years, meeting lots of York residents and boosting the local economy!
I have worked as a Local Government Officer to help people to save energy and achieve warmer homes and lower fuel bills and this is something I am passionate about. I helped to introduce the community interest company Community Energy Solutions (CES) to York Council, leading to the York solar pv scheme that provides free electricity to residents during daylight hours.
As someone with first-hand experience of the Government cuts to local services and the real impact on people’s lives, I am proud to be representing the only party with real values whose policies are ‘for the common good’. Green Party councillors speak out not just for our environment but also for residents, local communities and for more democratic and open local decision-making.
