York Green Party announces Guildhall local election candidates

17 December 2014

York Green Party has named its candidates for the Guildhall ward in next year’s City of York Council elections as Denise Craghill, June Tranmer and Andy Law. This comes hot on the heels of Green Party Councillor Andy D'Agorne's successful motion to prevent pubs in York being turned into supermarkets without going through the planning process, a significant victory for the York Greens.

Lead candidate Denise Craghill, who is also the long-standing Chair of the York Green Party, said:

"I am very proud to be part of the Green team for Guildhall. This is an amazing ward covering many different neighbourhoods and much of the city centre. Our Guildhall team brings a great range of experience with June's background in health and social enterprise and Andy, a graduate and employee of York St John University, engaged with equality and diversity issues".

Denise Craghill was also the Green Party's lead candidate for Guildhall in the 2011 local election, coming second. With membership of the national party doubling this year alone, the Greens are building up real momentum ahead of next year's elections. Guildhall residents will be electing three representatives in 2015 following a boundary review and the Greens stand a good chance of building on the 2011 result and gaining more seats on the council.
