York Green Party announces Micklegate local election candidates

10 December 2014

York Green Party has named its candidates for the Micklegate ward in next year’s City of York Council elections as Lars Kramm, Helen Johnson and Mark Havercroft. All three seats in the ward are all currently held by Labour Councillors - Cllr Sandy Fraser (who has announced his intention to stand down in 2015) plus Julie Gunnell and Dave Merrett. The Greens ran a close second in 2007 and in 2011.

Lead candidate Lars Kramm, who has several years experience as a local councillor for the German Greens, said:

"Micklegate has for years been a centre of Green activities and it is an area that means a great deal to all three of us. I have been delighted with the enthusiasm towards the Greens’ policies that I have encountered while out canvassing in Micklegate. In the run-up to the election we will be working hard to get out there and meet even more people in order to spread the Green message".

Lars Kramm is a trained lawyer, has been a member of his native German Green Party for 15 years and served in different functions, among others five years as a Green member of his hometown's city council. He works currently as a manager for a York based retail company. Helen Johnson is a retired headteacher and Mark Havercroft is a self-employed construction professional.

York Green Party is aiming to increase its representation on the Council at the election and Micklegate is a key target ward. With membership of the party more than doubling this year alone, the Greens are building up real momentum ahead of the 2015 elections.
