York Green Party clean streets of Guildhall

Green Party litter pick

Members of York Green Party braved the elements this weekend, spending their Saturday morning picking up litter in the Groves.

Green Party Councillor for Guildhall, Denise Craghill, organised the litter picking session with members of York Green Party.

Cllr Craghill said: “Litter is a major issue for residents in Guildhall. As a city centre ward with numerous car parks, takeaways and city centre visitors, litter is a persistent problem which can make local neighbourhoods look uncared for".

"Government cuts mean that it is getting harder and harder for the Council to clean up as often as it should. Whilst obviously we cannot clean up the whole city in one session, we hope to make this a regular event. I know many individual residents are already volunteer litter pickers on a regular basis and I will be encouraging other litter picking groups to come together in the area. It can be fun and rewarding and it is a bit of a social occasion with a well-earned a cup of tea after all the hard work!”
