Green Party election candidates have welcomed the reduction in the energy price cap but warn that average bills remain £400 higher than before the energy crisis.
Green Party Co-Leader Carla Denyer, who is the favourite to win Bristol Central on July 4th, stated: “Consumers are still bearing the burden of a crisis they didn’t create. Neither the Conservatives nor Labour are offering the real, practical solutions needed to reduce bills and protect the environment by cutting home energy use.”
Lars Kramm, former York Councillor and Green Party candidate for York Central, commented: “Tweaking the price cap isn’t enough. We need a massive, government-backed, council-led home insulation programme starting right after the General Election. This Green initiative would be a win-win for people and the planet, offering hope and positive change.”
Michael Kearney, Green Party candidate for York Outer, added: “Greens aim to reduce bills long-term and cut greenhouse gas emissions by building new, energy-efficient homes and improving insulation in existing ones. Insulating homes means people can stay warm using less energy, save money, and produce fewer carbon emissions. This election is your chance to send a strong green message to any future government.”
